ATTORNEY PAUL N. PURI
Criminal Trial Attorney and
Appeals Lawyer
in the Bay Area and Northern California
A successful trial begins the first moment the criminal trial lawyer
interviews his client. The criminal trial attorney must see into the
future, to the closing argument and jury instructions of the trial
while his client recounts the events that led to his or her arrest or
were the cause of a federal probe or police investigation. A good
trial lawyer has the experience to visualise how a jury would react
to the presentation of evidence, to cross-examination and to the
closing argument. He can imagine how the jury may interpret the
judge's instructions of law, and can picture how the twelve people
might agree or disagree about facts, evidence and law. At that
time, the qualified trial attorney will formulate a defense theory,
and plan to execute it.
Once the trial lawyer has heard his clients version of events, he
immediately calls upon his team of investigators, forensic
scientists and field experts to gather the facts and process them.
Because, he has experience winning trial cases, he can guide
his team to focus on uncovering or illucidating facts that will
"crack the case," meaning he focuses on only those facts that
would utterly frustrate the potential or pending investigation or
prosecution, or result in a dismissal or an acquittal.
A little known fact about hiring a great trial attorney early in an
investigation, and before charges are filed is that the client has
the opportunity to avoid prosecution altogether. Investigation into
potential prosecution witnesses may uncover facts harmful to a
successful prosecution. When evidence that may be harmful to a
potential prosecution is presented to the prosecuting lawyers,
charges can be curtailed; arrests can be avoided, the terror of
possible jail time forgotten.
Trial lawyers make the best negotiators as well. If your case is
languishing in a pre-trial court, and it seems that the matter is
going no where fast, then a talented trial lawyer can step in,
complete investigation and push the prosecutor into a corner
where he or she must relent or face defeat at trial.
The successful appeal of a failed trial can best be won by a great
trial lawyer, because he knows first hand where judges and
prosecutors commit error. Having won serious jury trials, he
know the rules of evidence and procedure; he knows how to scan
the court records to identify those issues which would result in a
successful appeal. Being both a scholar of the law and an
advanced trial advocate, he knows how to perfect the trial record
for appeal. Because, he can think on his feet, if the appeal were
called before the three-judge appellate panel, he can present his
oral arguments effectively and skillfully.
For the above-stated reasons, there is no downside risk to hiring
an effective and talented trial lawyer to handle your interrogation,
investigation, negotiation, trial, or appeal. If you want to insure
victory and secure your freedom, then hire the best trial attorney
you can find as soon as you possibly can.
"I believe in our freedoms;
law.' I don't like the phrase
'criminal law.' You're not a
criminal if the prosecution
can't prove it. When I fight
for you, this is the law of
accusations not criminals."
