"Top San Francisco criminal defense attorney," "best criminal defense lawyer in the Bay Area," if you you google these terms you will see long lists of lawyers in San Francisco, San Jose, San Mateo, etc., advertising their "criminal defense" services. Consider what they are saying: You or your loved one is a criminal. I don't do "criminal defense." I am NOT a "criminal defense attorney." All my clients are presumed innocent. The word "criminal" only refers to someone who has been found guilty by a jury or who plead "guilty." I practice the law of freedom and innocence. Because I am a jury trial lawyer in San Francisco, in the storied tradition of San Francisco trial attornies, I concede no guilt by my clients. I fight for their absolute right to the presumption of innocence and to force the government to provide proof beyond all reasonable doubt of each element of each charge for each witness and each item of evidence they seek to admit. Whatever they seek to admit. I throw up a torrent of objections. I fight. It is my path to freedom.

This form does not yet contain any fields.

I'm Paul Nathan Puri. My friends call me "Nate." My family calls me "Nathan." My client's say, "call Paul." I take big cases. I win 'em. I hang 'em. I get 'em dismissed. I'm meticulous and relentless on cross-examination. I travel the world pursuing my witnesses. I barge into their places of business. I get the statements. I break the case. I put it together. Then, on closing arguments, I am set free.

My father is from India and my mother is White American. My spiritual father is Tibetan and my spiritual mother is Taiwanese. My wife is bi-racial, African-American and White. We are Tibetan Buddhists. We believe in peace and freedom and non-violence, non-killing and non-lying. I spend my free time in meditation at home or at my monastery.

We were taught that perceptions have no true foundation. Beliefs have no fundamental ground. The ultimate good is simply to benefit others, to see reality directly within, and to manifest beauty. The presumption of innocence is wonderful. It is lovely and beautiful in theory, lovely and beautiful in practice, lovely and beautiful on the tongue, in the mind, at birth and at death.

Freedom is the clarion call of the archangels on Mount Zion. Freedom is the consciousness that transcends all possible universes of conceptual thought. Freedom is absolutely concrete while vanishing before the mind into the mist of ephemerality like a shade, like a light. And where the light and shadows meet between the twenty-four eyes of twelve jurors, that is where contours form "the truth" of an innocence presumed. A jury trial is a magical apparition of the Lord of Knowledge. When I'm in that courtroom, I am not even "Paul," "Nate," or "Nathan." I am that manifestation of truth. Jesus said, "the truth will set you free," but, for me, freedom IS the truth.
